Hezekiah becomes king of Judah and stands out for his faithfulness. He removes high places, destroys idols, and even breaks the bronze serpent because people had begun to worship it. Assyria invades Judah, capturing cities and threatening Jerusalem. Hezekiah pays tribute but Assyria still sends officials to intimidate the city, proclaiming that no god has ever stopped Assyria. The people remain silent as Hezekiah commanded. This chapter sets the stage for God’s dramatic rescue.
Christ-Foreshadowing: Hezekiah’s trust in God before an overwhelming enemy reflects Christ, who perfectly trusts the Father and brings deliverance from powers far greater than Assyria.
