Jehoahaz becomes king of Israel and continues the sins of Jeroboam, leading the nation deeper into idolatry. As a result, God allows Aram to oppress Israel severely. Jehoahaz finally seeks the Lord, and God in mercy provides a deliverer, though the people continue in sin. His son Jehoash reigns after him and also walks in idolatry. Near death, Elisha weeps with King Jehoash over Israel’s future. Elisha instructs him to shoot an arrow symbolizing victory over Aram, but Jehoash strikes the ground only three times, limiting the fullness of the victory. After Elisha dies, a miraculous sign occurs: a dead man thrown into Elisha’s tomb comes to life when he touches Elisha’s bones, confirming God’s power remains.
Christ-Foreshadowing: Elisha’s life-giving power after death points toward Christ, whose resurrection brings eternal life to those dead in sin.
