King Joash begins well, repairing the temple and redirecting funds toward necessary restoration. A chest is installed for offerings to ensure proper use of contributions. However, in later years, Joash gives temple treasures to Hazael king of Aram to stop an attack, showing spiritual decline. Eventually Joash is assassinated by his own officials. The chapter demonstrates that beginning well is not the same as finishing faithfully.

Christ-Foreshadowing: Joash’s failure as a flawed reformer contrasts with Christ, the perfect restorer who faithfully builds God’s true temple—His people.
