After Ahaziah’s death, his mother Athaliah seizes the throne in Judah by killing the royal heirs. But Joash, an infant, is hidden in the temple for six years by his aunt Jehosheba. When Joash is seven, Priest Jehoiada organizes a covenantal uprising. Athaliah is executed, Joash is crowned, and the people destroy Baal’s temple. Judah renews faithfulness to God, demonstrating that God preserves David’s line even when it seems nearly extinguished.
Christ-Foreshadowing: Joash’s preservation foreshadows Christ’s own protected infancy and God’s commitment to keep the Messianic line alive.
