2 Corinthians 13

Paul prepares for his third visit and warns that unrepentant sin will be addressed. He references the Old Testament requirement of two or three witnesses to establish a charge.

Some questioned his authority. Paul responds by pointing to Christ’s pattern: crucified in weakness, raised in power. Apostolic weakness mirrors Christ’s cross-shaped ministry.

He calls the Corinthians to examine themselves — not to doubt salvation lightly, but to ensure genuine faith and obedience.

Paul clarifies his authority is given to build up, not destroy. His goal is restoration, unity, and peace.

The letter ends with one of the clearest Trinitarian blessings in Scripture: grace (Son), love (Father), and fellowship (Spirit).

Major themes:

  • Self-examination
  • Authority under Christ
  • Weakness and power
  • Restoration and unity
  • Trinitarian blessing

Christ Foreshadowing — 2 Corinthians 13 (Condensed)

This chapter reflects the pattern of Christ’s cross and resurrection.

He was crucified in weakness — yet lives in power.
His authority builds up, not destroys.
His people are called to test themselves in light of Him.

The closing blessing reveals the fullness of God’s covenant presence — grace through the Son, love from the Father, fellowship in the Spirit.

Christ stands as the risen Lord,
the foundation of true faith,
and the One who sustains His church in peace.

2 Corinthians 13

(Verse 1)

This will be my third visit.

Every charge must stand

On the testimony of two or three witnesses.

I warned before —

And I warn again —

If I come and sin remains,

I will not spare.

(Verse 2)

You seek proof

That Christ speaks through me.

He is not weak toward you —

But powerful among you.

For He was crucified in weakness,

Yet lives by the power of God.

(Chorus)

Examine yourselves —

To see whether you are in the faith.

Test yourselves.

Do you not realize

That Jesus Christ is in you?

Unless indeed

You fail the test.

(Verse 3)

We too are weak in Him,

But will live with Him

By the power of God.

Our prayer is not

That we appear approved,

But that you do what is right.

(Verse 4)

We cannot act against the truth —

Only for the truth.

We rejoice when we are weak

And you are strong.

This is why I write while absent,

So that when present

I may not use severity

According to the authority

The Lord gave

For building up —

Not tearing down.

(Bridge)

Finally, brothers and sisters —

Rejoice.

Aim for restoration.

Comfort one another.

Agree with one another.

Live in peace.

And the God of love and peace

Will be with you.

(Ending)

Greet one another

With holy affection.

All the saints greet you.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,

The love of God,

And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit

Be with you all.
