The final chapter summarizes Judah’s last kings. Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah all do evil, rejecting God’s Word and despising His prophets. God sends repeated warnings, but Judah refuses to repent. Babylon conquers Jerusalem, burns the temple, and exiles the people for seventy years. The book ends with a glimmer of hope: Cyrus of Persia proclaims that God has appointed him to rebuild the temple and allows exiles to return.
Christ-Foreshadowing: The exile and return foreshadow Christ, who brings His people back from spiritual captivity and rebuilds the true temple through His redeeming work.
