Ahaziah reigns only one year, following the wicked ways of Ahab’s house. Jehu kills him as part of God’s judgment on Ahab’s dynasty. Athaliah, Ahaziah’s mother, seizes the throne and kills the royal heirs, but Joash, a young son, is rescued and hidden by Jehosheba and the priest Jehoiada for six years.
Christ-Foreshadowing: Joash’s miraculous preservation foreshadows Christ’s protected infancy and God’s commitment to preserve the Messianic line.
