Saul, a tall and impressive young man from the tribe of Benjamin, searched for his father’s lost donkeys. God orchestrated events so he would meet Samuel, who had been told the day before that Saul was the one chosen to lead Israel. Samuel honored Saul at a feast and privately revealed God’s plan to him. The chapter shows God’s sovereign guidance in ordinary circumstances and His intention to deliver Israel through the man He selects.
Foreshadowing of Christ:
While Saul is an imperfect king, his anointing points forward to Christ—the true Anointed One—whose kingship is not based on outward stature but divine calling.
