After the ark rested in Kiriath Jearim for years, Samuel urged Israel to turn from idols and serve the Lord wholeheartedly. The people repented, and when the Philistines attacked during a worship gathering, Samuel interceded and God thundered from heaven, routing the enemy. Samuel set up a stone called Ebenezer—“Thus far the Lord has helped us”—as a memorial. Israel experienced peace as Samuel judged them faithfully. The chapter shows revival through repentance, prayer, and righteous leadership.
Foreshadowing of Christ:
Samuel’s intercession for Israel anticipates Christ, our eternal Intercessor, whose mediation brings victory and peace to God’s people.
