1 Samuel 25

After Samuel’s death, David moved to the wilderness of Paran, where he requested provisions from a wealthy but harsh man named Nabal, whose shepherds David had previously protected. Nabal insulted David, provoking him to prepare for vengeance. But Nabal’s wise wife, Abigail, intervened with generous gifts and humble words, reminding David of God’s promises and urging him not to shed innocent blood. David blessed Abigail for her wisdom and restraint. Soon after, God struck Nabal, and David took Abigail as his wife. Meanwhile, Saul gave Michal, David’s first wife, to another man. The chapter highlights how God prevents His servants from sin through unexpected means and how wisdom and humility avert disaster.

Foreshadowing of Christ:
Abigail’s intercession, offering herself to turn away wrath, points to Christ, who steps between guilty sinners and righteous judgment to bring peace and salvation.
