When Israel faced the Philistines, Goliath—a giant warrior—taunted Israel for forty days, instilling fear in the army and King Saul. David, sent to deliver food to his brothers, was stirred with righteous indignation that this uncircumcised Philistine defied the living God. Trusting not in weapons but in God’s power, David volunteered to fight. Rejecting Saul’s armor, he confronted Goliath with a sling and declared that the battle belonged to the Lord. David struck Goliath with a single stone and cut off his head, leading Israel to a sweeping victory. The chapter demonstrates that true courage springs from faith, not physical strength, and that God exalts those who trust Him wholeheartedly.
Foreshadowing of Christ:
David defeating the giant foreshadows Christ, who triumphs over sin, death, and Satan—not with worldly power, but through divine authority and sacrificial victory.
