Saul began his reign, but when faced with Philistine pressure and dwindling troops, he grew impatient and offered a burnt offering himself—violating God’s instructions and Samuel’s command. Samuel rebuked him, declaring that because of his disobedience, his kingdom would not endure. Israel was left vulnerable, with few weapons and a massive Philistine force looming. The chapter exposes Saul’s impatience, insecurity, and failure to trust God fully.
