Samuel anointed Saul, gave him confirming signs, and told him the Spirit of the Lord would come upon him. When the Spirit rushed upon Saul, he prophesied, symbolizing God’s empowerment. Later, at Mizpah, Saul was publicly chosen by lot, though initially hiding among the baggage. While some accepted him joyfully, others despised him. Saul returned home quietly, waiting for God’s timing. The chapter shows God equipping His chosen leader despite initial fear and insecurity.
Foreshadowing of Christ:
Saul’s anointing and empowerment foreshadow Christ’s perfect anointing with the Spirit at His baptism—the true King empowered to save His people completely.
