Hannah, grieved by long barrenness and constant provocation from Peninnah, poured out her anguish before the Lord at Shiloh, vowing that if God granted her a son, she would dedicate him entirely to His service. Though Eli initially misunderstood her silent prayer, he soon blessed her request, and God remembered her, giving her a son named Samuel. After weaning him, she faithfully fulfilled her vow, bringing him to the tabernacle to live in lifelong service to the Lord. This opening chapter reveals God’s compassion toward those who approach Him in humility, and how He begins to reshape Israel’s future through one woman’s surrendered faith.
Foreshadowing of Christ:
Samuel’s birth to a barren woman and his total dedication to God prefigure Jesus—the miraculously given Son who would be wholly consecrated to the Father for the salvation of the world.
