1 Kings 6 — The Temple is Built

In the fourth year of Solomon’s reign, construction of the temple begins, and the chapter carefully describes the dimensions, rooms, carvings, and gold overlay that make it a place of great beauty and holiness. In the midst of the building project, God speaks a crucial reminder: if Solomon walks in God’s statutes, then the Lord will dwell among His people and not forsake Israel. The structure itself, with its inner sanctuary for the ark and its carefully ordered spaces, reflects God’s holiness and His desire to draw near, but also the distance that sin still creates. Though the temple is majestic, it is only a shadow of the true dwelling of God. This foreshadows Christ, who is Himself the true Temple—God in human flesh—through whom the barrier of sin is removed and we are invited into the very presence of God.
