1 Kings 5 — Preparing to Build the Temple

Solomon honors the friendship between his father David and Hiram king of Tyre, requesting timber and skilled workers to build a house for the Lord, since David had been prevented from doing so in his lifetime. Hiram rejoices and blesses the Lord, and an international partnership is formed as cedar and cypress are floated by sea and massive labor forces are organized in Israel. The chapter highlights a season of peace, during which Solomon can devote resources to building a dwelling place for God’s Name, fulfilling what had long been promised. This cooperation and careful preparation point toward Christ, in whom God Himself comes to dwell among us, and who now builds a living temple made of people from every nation, fitted together in unity as a spiritual house for His glory.
