Paul responds to questions about marriage, singleness, divorce, and calling.
He affirms marriage as honorable and protective. Husbands and wives belong to one another in mutual responsibility and care. Intimacy within marriage is not selfish but covenantal.
Singleness is also affirmed as a gift. It allows undivided devotion to the Lord. Paul does not command one life path over another — each person has a calling from God.
Regarding divorce, Paul upholds Jesus’ teaching: believers should not separate from their spouses. However, if an unbelieving spouse leaves, the believer is “not enslaved” — God has called them to peace.
A central theme emerges: remain as you were when called. Whether married or single, circumcised or uncircumcised, slave or free — external status is secondary. What matters most is faithfulness to Christ.
Paul reminds them that this present world is passing away. Therefore, earthly roles should not dominate eternal priorities. Devotion to the Lord stands above all.
This chapter reflects Christ’s faithful covenant love.
Marriage mirrors the covenant bond between Christ and His people — not easily broken, rooted in commitment. Singleness reflects undivided devotion to the Bridegroom.
The call to remain faithful in every circumstance echoes Christ’s own submission to the Father’s will in every season. Earthly statuses fade, but belonging to Christ endures.
As the world passes, His covenant remains. And in every calling, He is our constant portion.
Corinthians 7
(Verse 1)
Now concerning what you’ve asked,
Of marriage bonds and passions fast —
The body’s not for selfish claim,
But given in covenant flame.
Husband and wife in mutual grace,
Each honoring the other’s place.
Not withholding love in pride,
But walking faithful side by side.
(Verse 2)
Yet if restraint becomes a snare,
Better marriage than silent despair.
For some are called to single days,
Free to serve in undivided ways.
Each has a gift from God alone —
Not every path the same is shown.
(Chorus)
Remain as you were when He called your name,
In every season, He stays the same.
Bond or free, or joined in vow —
Christ is your portion here and now.
Let peace be guard and calling guide,
For God walks with you at your side.
(Verse 3)
If married, do not lightly part,
For covenant binds heart to heart.
Yet if one leaves and will not stay,
The Lord brings peace another way.
Not forced by chains of constant war,
For God has called you unto more.
(Verse 4)
Were you bound when grace began?
Do not despise your present span.
Were you free? Then serve Him still —
In every state, obey His will.
Circumcised or not the sign,
What matters most is life aligned.
(Bridge)
The time is short, the world will fade,
Earthly forms will not long stay.
Those who weep or those who rejoice
Hold lightly what the world would voice.
For passing shadows fill the air —
But Christ remains forever there.
(Ending)
So whether single, wed, or worn,
Let faithful hearts in Christ be sworn.
In joy or trial, calm or flame —
You are His own — remain the same.
