Paul reminds the Corinthians that when he first preached to them, he did not rely on impressive rhetoric or philosophical argument. He centered his message on “Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”
His goal was not intellectual admiration but genuine faith grounded in the power of God.
Paul explains that there is true wisdom — but it is not from this age or its rulers. It is God’s eternal redemptive plan, once hidden but now revealed through the Holy Spirit. The rulers did not understand this wisdom, or they would not have crucified “the Lord of glory.”
Only the Spirit of God knows the depths of God. Believers receive the Spirit so they can understand what God has freely given. The natural person, without the Spirit, cannot grasp spiritual truth. But those who belong to Christ share in “the mind of Christ.”
This chapter teaches that spiritual understanding comes through revelation, not human intellect.
This chapter reveals Jesus as the hidden wisdom of God.
What was foreshadowed in the sacrificial system, the Passover lamb, and the promises of a suffering Redeemer is fulfilled in Christ crucified. Paul calls Him “the Lord of glory,” showing that the very glory that filled the tabernacle now stands revealed in the crucified Messiah.
The cross, which appeared as weakness, is divine wisdom. What rulers failed to understand, God ordained before the ages for salvation.
Through the Spirit, believers now understand what prophets longed to see — that redemption comes through a suffering yet victorious Savior.
Hidden wisdom is unveiled. Glory enters suffering. And through Christ, we receive the mind of God.
Intro]
In the hush before the dawn, we gather here to share
Presence in our silence, whispers rise in prayer
[Verse 1]
When I came to you, I did not arrive
With polished speech or clever disguise,
No lofty wisdom dressed in pride,
No scholar’s robe I tried to hide behind.
I chose to know one thing alone—
Christ crucified, the Cornerstone.
Not strength of mind nor artful skill,
But trembling heart and yielded will.
[Chorus]
Not with words, but with power,
Not with pride, but surrender’s hour.
Eyes haven’t seen, nor ears have heard,
What God prepares beyond this world.
Revealed by Spirit, deep and true—
The hidden wisdom given to you.
[Verse 2]
I stood with weakness, fear, and need,
Not building faith on rhetoric’s seed.
For faith must rest on something sure—
God’s power alone will endure.
Not human wisdom, passing breath,
But Spirit-life that conquers death.
[Pre-Chorus]
A still, small voice that breaks through night,
In dim lit rooms, uncovers light.
When we’re weary and unsteady feet,
He comes to hold us when we meet.
[Chorus]
Not with words, but with power,
Not with pride, but surrender’s hour.
Eyes haven’t seen, nor ears have heard,
What God prepares beyond this world.
Revealed by Spirit, deep and true—
The hidden wisdom given to you.
[Verse 3]
There is a wisdom for the grown,
Not of this age nor rulers’ throne.
For had they known the Lord of glory,
They would not have crucified the story.
What once was hidden, now unfolds,
In Spirit’s light, the truth it holds.
[Bridge]
So let the heart row on its journey,
Ride the waves to shores uncharted,
Holding tight to promise, faith is ours,
In humble places, find His power.
[Chorus]
Not with words, but with power,
Not with pride, but surrender’s hour.
Eyes haven’t seen, nor ears have heard,
What God prepares beyond this world.
Revealed by Spirit, deep and true—
The hidden wisdom given to you.
[Outro]
In surrender, we are free, in weakness we are whole,
With every whispered prayer, He will touch our soul.
[Softer Instrumentation]
Not with words, but with power,
Not with words, but with power.
