1 Corinthians 11

Paul addresses order and honor within gathered worship, emphasizing that worship should reflect God’s design rather than confusion or selfishness.

The second half of the chapter focuses on abuses surrounding the Lord’s Supper. Instead of gathering in unity, the Corinthians allowed division between rich and poor. Some overindulged while others were neglected.

Paul reminds them of the sacred meaning of Communion. Jesus instituted the bread and cup as remembrance of His body and blood and as the sign of the new covenant.

Believers are instructed to examine themselves before participating. The Lord’s Supper must never be treated casually or selfishly. Worship should reflect reverence, unity, and love for one another.

Major themes:

Honor and order in worship

Unity within the church

The sacredness of the Lord’s Supper

Self-examination

Remembering Christ’s sacrifice

1 Corinthians 11

(Verse 1)

Follow me as I follow Christ.

Imitate what reflects His life.

In worship, honor what God has set —

Not confusion, not neglect.

(Verse 2)

There is an order woven deep:

Christ the head, the Father supreme.

Man and woman, equal in worth,

Yet distinct in calling upon the earth.

Do not cast aside what God designed,

Nor dishonor what He has assigned.

(Chorus)

In the gathered place, let honor stand.

Let worship follow God’s command.

Not pride, not shame, not selfish claim —

But hearts aligned in Jesus’ Name.

(Verse 3)

When you come together, I hear division.

Not unity, but separation.

At the Lord’s Table — this sacred meal —

Some go hungry, others overfill.

This is not the Supper of the Lord

When love is absent from the board.

(Verse 4)

For on the night He was betrayed,

The Lord took bread — and thanks He gave.

He broke it, saying, “This is My body,

Given for you — remember Me.”

In the same way, the cup was raised:

“This cup is the new covenant

In My blood.”

(Bridge)

As often as you eat this bread

And drink this cup,

You proclaim His death

Until He comes.

So examine your heart.

Discern the body.

Come in humility —

Not in careless pride.

(Ending)

For some grew weak, some fell asleep,

Treating lightly what is deep.

But when we judge ourselves in truth,

We walk in grace and living proof.

So wait for one another in love —

And honor the Lord who reigns above.
