The tribes east of the Jordan—Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh—are listed. Though Reuben was Jacob’s firstborn, his birthright went to Joseph due to Reuben’s sin. The tribes experienced victory when they sought God but later fell into idolatry, resulting in exile by the Assyrians.
Christ-Foreshadowing: The loss and restoration themes point to Christ, who restores what sin destroys and brings God’s people back from spiritual exile.
