1 Chronicles 21

Satan incites David to take a census, and David sins by numbering the people out of pride. God gives David three choices of judgment; David chooses to fall into God’s merciful hand. A devastating plague strikes Israel, but God stops the angel at the threshing floor of Araunah. David purchases the site and builds an altar, and God answers with fire from heaven.

Christ-Foreshadowing: The site of David’s altar becomes the location of the future temple— pointing to Christ, the final sacrifice who stops judgment and brings forgiveness.
